climate protection - Did the country reach its climate goals? Report will be presented

What is the distance of the country on the way to achieving its Climate Goals? A group of scientists have been preoccupied with this question. Their answers will be presented by the experts today during a press conference. The so-called Climate Projections Report aims to show whether the country is on the right track to achieving its climate goals. If there is a deviation from the targets, the report should also analyze the causes and present possible solutions.

The country has set itself the goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent compared to 1990 by 2030 and becoming climate neutral by 2040 – five years earlier than what was decided by the Federal Government for Germany. Only as many greenhouse gases may then be emitted as can be bound.

Whether these goals can really be achieved is questionable. According to recent estimates from the Statistical Office, the CO2 emissions in the previous year had significantly decreased. However, in order to achieve the climate goals, only about half of the emissions of the year 2023 should be emitted in 2030, the statisticians stated.

The Climate Expert Council of the State criticized the climate policy in the Southwest last year as "not effective enough", "too small-scale", or bureaucratic - and warned that the climate goals could not be achieved with the current successes.

  1. To reach the country's climate goals, a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is necessary, with only half of the 2023 emissions allowed in 2030.
  2. Despite the decreased CO2 emissions last year, Baden-Württemberg's Climate Expert Council pointed out that the current climate policy is not effective enough to achieve the stated climate goals.
  3. The Climate Protection Office in Stuttgart is working tirelessly to develop and implement effective strategies to help Baden-Württemberg reach its ambitious climate goals and contribute positively to the environmental protection efforts of the entire region.
