DHL Express employees in the USA go on strike during the Christmas season
In the USA, more than 1100 DHL Express employees are on strike at the Deutsche Post subsidiary's most important US air hub. The employees of the globally active logistics company are staging protests at the Cincinnati hub during the important Christmas season to protest against unfair labor practices and deadlocked contract talks.
Solidarity actions were also planned in Europe, according to the union. The Verdi union backed the protests: "We are in solidarity with our colleagues in the USA who are fighting for their rights and an improvement in their working conditions," said a spokesperson.
DHL Express explained on Friday night that the company had put contingency plans in place to ensure that the service would not be interrupted. This includes the deployment of replacement staff at the hub and the relocation of flights and shipments from the affected Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to other DHL locations in the region.
Employees have been negotiating new contracts with DHL since July. However, the talks have so far failed to produce any results. The strike is now threatening delays in the delivery of parcels during the critical peak season at Christmas. According to DHL, further talks with the union are scheduled for December.
The workers are responsible for loading and unloading DHL cargo planes. They joined the transport union in April and have been negotiating since July.

This action is necessary due to the significant role of the US air hub in DHL's most important Christmas business.
The most important DHL Express employees' strike in the USA stems from unfavorable labor practices and stalled contract talks, with the employees asserting their right to improved working conditions.
