Fight about money - Despite Lindner's no: Greens demand children's allowance from 2025

Green party vice-faction leader Andreas Audretsch maintains the introduction of a Child Allowance in 2025 despite Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) ruling out such a move during this legislative term. Audretsch told Reuters news agency, "With the support of Family Minister Lisa Paus, we have tabled the proposal in the Bundestag to introduce it in two stages." Details are currently being negotiated between the SPD, Green, and FDP factions. "We will bring the Child Allowance into being in 2025," Audretsch said.

Lindner had questioned the introduction in 2025 and referred to the fact that no further action was required regarding state financial support for children. "We will continue the Child Supplement and increase the Child Benefit. That's what we'll be doing on the benefits side during this legislative term," Lindner told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). Additionally, negotiations in the Bundestag are ongoing regarding the so-called Children's Opportunity Portal, which would be an informational offering. "Whether more coordination between authorities is possible during this legislative term will be shown."

Financial Foundation for Child Allowance

Audretsch stated that with the Child Package in the budget agreement for 2025, the financial foundation for the start of the Child Allowance in the same year would be laid. "Three billion Euros to improve the financial situation of families and children concretely – for all children. The money is secured, now it's about the future structure."

  1. In response to Lindner's opposition, Audretsch highlights the Federal Parliament's proposal to secure a financial foundation for the Child Allowance with the Child Package, allocating 3 billion Euros to improve the financial situation of all children.
  2. The Kindergroundsecurity debate also involves discussions about enhancing the safety measures at daycare centers, an issue that Andreas Audretsch, as the Green party vice-faction leader, has also raised concerns about, ensuring the well-being of children.
  3. A recent Reuters report revealed that Audretsch and Family Minister Lisa Paus are working together to introduce the Child Allowance in two stages, with the support of the SPD and FDP factions in the Federal Parliament.
  4. Despite Lindner's refusal to consider the Child Allowance in 2025 due to existing state financial support for children, the FDP has made it clear that they will continue to implement the Child Supplement and increase the Child Benefit during this legislative term.
