After the Detonations in Copenhagen

Denmark reaffirms sovereignty over frontiers with Germany.

Despite periodic instances of turmoil in Northern Europe due to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Denmark is beefing up its border security measures following incidents near its Israeli embassy. After explosions in Copenhagen and gunfire in Stockholm, Danish authorities are enhancing police presence and conducting thorough checks on vehicles and travelers crossing over with neighbors Sweden and Germany. The heightened security measures follow a spate of incidents in both cities.

Two young Swedes, aged 16 and 19, are under custody on suspicions of being behind the explosions in Copenhagen, with hand grenades as their alleged weapon. The pair will stay in custody till the end of the month.

In Stockholm, a shooting attack was directed at the Israeli embassy on Tuesday, leaving no casualties. In Copenhagen, meanwhile, two explosions were reported near the embassy on Wednesday.

According to Denmark's top police inspector, Peter Ekebjærg, the escalating violence serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threats of terrorism in the region. "We are constantly tracking the situation, impacting our assessment of the overall security situation, and implementing additional measures to combat this menace," Ekebjærg stated.

Sweden's security service, Säpo, also offered insights into a potential connection to Iran, with Säpo's operational manager, Fredrik Hallstrom, revealing that there might be traces of Iranian involvement. "However, it merits only a regulatory degree of suspicion rather than proven facts," Hallstrom cautioned.

In response to the increased tension in Northern Europe, Germany has decided to strengthen its border controls with Denmark to ensure security. This decision comes as Denmark enhance its measures due to incidents near its Israeli embassy in Copenhagen and Stockholm.
