US campaign - Democrats prefer Harris nomination

The US Democrats aim to determine their presidential candidate before the party convention, which is scheduled for mid-August, virtually. The relevant committee of the Democratic Party approved this procedure. According to reports from the "Washington Post" and CNN, the voting is expected to begin on August 1st. Prospective candidates had until the end of July to file their presidential campaign.

So far, Vice President Kamala Harris is the only declared candidate. Her boss, President Joe Biden, suggested her as a replacement candidate when he withdrew from the race.

According to US media estimates, Harris currently has the support of sufficient delegates to be nominated as her party's candidate. This is evident from public declarations of support. No challenger has emerged yet.

Initially, the Democrats planned to officially nominate their presidential candidate at a large nomination convention from August 19th to 22nd in Chicago. However, Biden's withdrawal has forced a reshuffle of the cards. The party leadership had already advanced plans to winnow down the candidates beforehand.

This relates to the deadlines in the states regarding when parties must confirm their candidates to appear on the ballot. The party is particularly concerned about the state of Ohio. The relevant deadline there would have expired before the beginning of the convention in Chicago. However, a law was passed in Ohio that extended the deadline. The Democrats argue, however, that leading Republicans in Ohio could challenge this and that the Democratic candidate or candidate therefore needs to be nominated before the party convention.

  1. Despite being the only declared candidate so far for the US Election 2024 within the Democratic Party, Vice President Kamala Harris still needs to secure the necessary delegates during the US election campaign to be officially nominated as the party's candidate.
  2. The CNN and Washington Post have reported that the US Democratic Party's primary voting is scheduled to commence on August 1st, giving potential candidates until the end of July to file their presidential campaign.
  3. The US Election 2024 campaign strategies of both Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden might heavily influence the results leading up to the democratic party convention scheduled for mid-August, virtually.
  4. The Republican leadership in Ohio could potentially challenge the extension of the deadline to confirm candidates for the US Election 2024 ballot, putting pressure on the Democrats to nominate their candidate before the party convention, as reported by CNN and other US media outlets.
  5. The task for the relevant committee of the Democratic Party in determining their 2024 presidential candidate before the party convention is critical, considering that the US Election 2024 campaign is expected to be highly intense and impactful for the United States of America.
