Democrats are hurried in selecting candidates

**Originally, the US Democrats intended to officially throw their Presidential candidate into the race in the middle of August. However, it seems it may be moving faster. Otherwise, there is a fear that the Republicans could prevent the nomination in a US state.

The US Democrats plan to determine their Presidential candidate virtually before the party convention in mid-August. The relevant committee of the Democratic Party has approved the procedure for this. If only one person is running, an electronic vote could start as early as August 1st. If there are multiple candidates, the voting will begin a few days later.

Potential candidates have until the end of July to file their Presidential campaign and show the support of 300 delegates. So far, Vice President Kamala Harris is the only candidate.

President Joe Biden suggested Harris as his replacement candidate for the November election when he withdrew from the campaign. According to US media estimates, Harris currently has enough delegates from the Democrats to be nominated as a candidate. This is evident from public declarations of support. Potential challengers have not yet spoken out.

Concerns about Ohio

Originally, the Democrats planned to officially nominate their Presidential candidate at a large nomination convention from August 19th to 22nd in Chicago. With Biden's withdrawal, the cards are being shuffled again. However, the party leadership had already planned to select the nominees before the convention. This is related to the deadlines in the states, by when the parties must confirm their candidates to appear on the ballot.

The party is particularly concerned about the state of Ohio. The deadline there would have expired before the beginning of the convention in Chicago. However, a law was passed in Ohio that extended the deadline. The Democrats fear that leading Republicans in Ohio could challenge this and the Democratic candidate or candidate could therefore have to be nominated before the party convention.

Search for "Running Mate" already underway

The Democratic Party further announced that as soon as a Presidential candidate is chosen, they or she can name a Vice Presidential candidate. Harris has not yet commented on whom she would like to have at her side. According to insiders, the search for a potential "Running Mate" has already begun. The public debate currently focuses on four names: Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

To the extended list of about a dozen potential candidates, from whom Harris' campaign team has requested information, belong, according to sources, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The first information requests were made on Tuesday.**

In light of the accelerated timeline for the Democrats' Presidential nomination, there's speculation that Kamala Harris could secure the nomination for the 2024 United States Presidency Election earlier than expected. Should she become the official nominee, Vice President Harris will then have the opportunity to announce her potential running mate, a decision that is currently under consideration by her campaign team.
