Delay in sentencing in Trump trial likely

In the hush money trial against the former President Donald Trump, the sentencing process could be delayed. The New York District Attorney's office announced on Tuesday that they would not oppose a postponement of the scheduled term for July 11. A statement from the court was not available initially. Trump was found guilty by a jury in this case. In New York, in this particular case, the judge decides on the punishment. Although Trump theoretically faces imprisonment, experts rather expect a fine.

Trump's attorneys argued for the immunity of presidents immediately after the historic ruling of the US Supreme Court on immunity on Monday. The indictment from May 30 must now be reversed: The prosecution presented evidence that referred to official actions by Trump during his presidency. Thus, the judgment is invalid. The prosecution stated in response that they consider this objection to be false. However, they have no problem allowing Trump's attorneys to present their arguments in detail.

The delay in the penalty pronouncement for Donald Trump's hush money case could potentially impact the scheduled date of July 11. Despite Trump's conviction, experts generally anticipate a monetary fine instead of imprisonment, given the cash involvements in the case.
