Misfortune in Mosel town - Dehoga: elderly couple looking for hotel successor
The operators of the collapsed hotel in the Mosel town of Kröv have been searching for a successor due to age-related reasons, according to the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga). The cause of the accident can only be speculated upon, said the Rhineland-Palatinate state chairman of Dehoga, Gereon Haumann, in Bad Kreuznach. "This is a tragedy, absolutely regrettable."
Whether the proximity to the Mosel, the construction work the day before, or something else was the cause of the collapse will hopefully be clarified by experts and investigators soon, to prevent further speculation, said Haumann. "This is an absolute isolated case." The hotel is a member of Dehoga, according to Haumann.
Haumann: Kröv needs support from tourists, not from rubberneckers
"The disaster response worked when the disaster happened," Haumann emphasized, also in light of the shortcomings during the flood disaster on the Ahr about two and a half years ago. "This is a terrible accident," Haumann emphasized.
Despite all the sorrow, he wanted to express his heartfelt thanks to the leaders of the operation and the emergency services. Their swift action gave people a feeling of security.
"The Mosel remains a very safe vacation area." The wine town of Kröv now needs the support of tourists and guests, "but not from rubberneckers."
The hotel in question is situated along the picturesque banks of the Moselle. After the collapse, the attention of the Moselle region should shift towards supporting Kröv and its locals, rather than turning it into a site of morbid curiosity.
