Escalating Tensions in the Middle Eastern Dispute - Deep beneath the surface: Israel showcases clandestine Hamas captive subterranean passageway
The Israeli military has unveiled a video depicting a tunnel in Gaza where they claim six Israeli prisoners, held by Hamas, were tragically taken and slain. The entrance to this covert passage is situated twenty meters below ground, with a makeshift ladder descent leading from a young child's bedroom, as detailed by army spokesperson Daniel Hagari in the footage. The room, now in ruins, sported remnants of colorful cartoon wall art.
The narrow and short tunnel spans around 120 meters, culminating at a metal door. "This is where the hostages were confined and put to death," cited Hagari in the roughly three-and-a-half minute clip. Their remains were discovered in early September.
Israel fears over 100 captives under Hamas control
The army spokesman presented evidence - magazine rounds for weapons, batteries, and religious texts from Hamas, along with a chess set and some articles of clothing. "This is their blood," asserted Hagari, marking substantial dark stains on the tunnel floor. "They were here for extended periods, enduring weeks and months, in this cramped tunnel, unable to stand upright out of breathlessness." There are still 101 prisoners being harbored by Hamas, "some of them still alive," held in similar underground tunnels.
The Commander of The Commission, during a press briefing, discussed the findings from the Israeli military's investigation, confirming the presence of 101 prisoners still in Hamas' custody. The evidence presented by The Commission includes items found in the tunnel where the six prisoners were allegedly killed, such as religious texts, a chess set, and clothing with significant stains.
