Decreasing water levels continue to pose a significant threat.

The waters are gradually receding in the flood-stricken regions of southern Germany, yet there's still no relief for some areas. Tensions remain high in Regensburg and Passau, where the disaster alert persists. Elsewhere, clean-up activities commence.

The struggle against the floods and their aftermath in southern Germany rages on. Nighttime vigils were maintained on dikes, yet no significant damage or breaks were detected. However, the circumstance remains critical, particularly in eastern Bavaria, despite the commencement of the decline in water levels at specified areas along the impacted lower Danube. The morning readings at the gauges in Passau and Regensburg, as per the High Water Information Service (HND), remained at the highest danger level 4. In spite of improvements in many places, further casualties are anticipated due to numerous missing individuals, on top of the confirmed five flood victims.

The German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts additional showers and thunderstorms in Bavaria today and tomorrow, with heavy rains confined to the eastern Alpine foothills. The district administration of Donau-Ries cautions that, even though the water levels in rivers are descending, the water may continue to increase on land. For Baden-Württemberg, individual showers or thunderstorms are expected for tomorrow, although Wednesday should be mainly dry.

In Baden-Württemberg, as in the flood-stricken regions in western Bavaria, clean-up efforts are underway. A representative for the impacted community of Ebersbach an der Fils commented, "We're hardly close to normal." Citizens were seen clearing roads, pumping out basements, and removing debris. Dumpsters were made available for flooded property.

In Regensburg, establishments along a Danube street were evacuated on Monday due to the perilous state of the protective walls. "The ground of the Danube islands is wet and soft as if it's jelly," described Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer. Regensburg's situation still appeared dire, according to a city representative. At present, the HND still indicates a water level of over six meters - the regular level is usually around three meters.

In Passau, where the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers converge, a disaster status has been declared. Several roads and squares in the city are closed due to the flood. A spokesperson for the Niederbayern police headquarters discovered no damage or breaches at the dikes. Nonetheless, this can't be ruled out.

As per the city administration in Passau, the peak of the rivers Donau and Inn has been attained - the water levels are dropping slightly. The Danube water level was at nearly 9.70 meters on Tuesday evening, acknowledged the HND. Typical water levels are about six meters. The water level at the Inn decreased from approximately seven meters to close to 6.70 meters. It's believed that the readings at the gauges will continue to decline in the upcoming hours, while the Danube level will increase at a less rapid pace.

At least five deceased were recorded in the South German floods. The Bavarian Interior Ministry mentioned several missing individuals - including a 22-year-old firefighter in Offingen's Swabian town. Rescue teams worry that the young man drowned. This firefighter had volunteered with the German Life Saving Association's water rescue team near the border with Baden-Württemberg on Saturday night.
