Upon the implementation of entrance charges

Decreasing stress on Mount Fuji in Japan is evident.

The visitor charge implemented to tackle excessive tourism on Mount Fuji in Japan has yielded its expected results, as per Tokyo's administration: there's been a decrease in climbers this year. Preliminary figures from the Ministry of the Environment indicate that the number of hikers on Mount Fuji between mid-July and mid-September reduced by 14%.

Approximately 178,000 individuals attempted the ascent this year, which is around 22,000 less than last year. With the escalating congestion experienced on Mount Fuji's sacred trails in recent times, officials implemented a fee of roughly 13 euros for utilizing the most frequented climbing trail on the mountain this year and capped the daily ticket sales to 4,000. The remaining three climbing trails remained charge-free.

Standing at an elevation of 3,776 meters, Mount Fuji is typically snow-capped throughout the year. In the summer, the steep, rocky trails get crowded with hikers. Many opt to ascend at night to catch the sunrise from the summit. The 2022 hiking season concluded on Tuesday.

Since the visitor charge was implemented, the number of climbers on Mount Fuji has decreased significantly. As a result, fewer individuals attempted the ascent this year compared to last.
