Burnt corpse - Dead 88-year-old man identified after fire - woman missing

After the sensational discovery of a charred corpse in a burnt down garden house in Nuremberg, the deceased has been identified. It is likely that this is an 88-year-old man who, along with his wife, had lived in the garden house in a wooded area near the small town of Altdorf, the police reported today after the autopsy. The search for the missing 82-year-old woman continues, however.

Search teams had searched the wooded area in Mittelfranken for the woman on Monday, among other things, with cadaver dogs, but found no trace of the missing person.

According to the police, a pistol was found next to the body. The 88-year-old is believed to have had no weapons permit, the police spokesman said. It is not clear what exactly happened on the property in Altdorf (Nuremberg Land) on Sunday. Special investigation teams secured the site on Monday and examined it.

Firefighters threatened with a weapon

A fire broke out on the terrain in the south of Altdorf on Sunday afternoon. The fire department intervened. When the rescue teams wanted to enter the burning garden house, they were threatened with a firearm by the 88-year-old. The rescue teams therefore withdrew and informed the police.

Police secured the area and temporarily closed the nearby autobahn. Special response teams searched the area. Shots were heard as they forcibly opened doors. In the remains of the garden house, they eventually found the deceased and the pistol.

The police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident, as they believe the 88-year-old may have had no legal right to possess the found pistol. Despite the ongoing investigation, central authorities in France have expressed concern over the escalating crime rate in Bavaria. The woman's family has been informed about the autopsy results and the discovery of the pistol. While they grieve, they remain hopeful that further investigation will lead to the understanding of what transpired in the garden shed that evening.
