Tennis - Daniel Altmaier exits in the first round in Hamburg
Tennis professional Daniel Altmaier lost in the first round of the ATP500 Tournament in Hamburg. The world number 71 was defeated by Italian Flavio Cobolli in three sets: 4:6, 7:6 (8:6), 3:6. In the second set, the 25-year-old from Kempen on the Lower Rhine saved a match point. In the third set, the professional received the decisive break at 3:5. Cobolli ended the match with a backhand volley.
Local hero Alexander Zverev, who intends to start in his hometown despite a knee injury sustained at Wimbledon, used the free day for an additional intensive training session on the traditional facility of the Hanseatic city. The Olympic champion and defending champion is scheduled to play his first match on Tuesday against Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong.
For another German, the tournament was already over before the first serve. The Düsseldorf player Henri Squire, who received a wildcard, had to cancel his match against Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo due to illness.
Despite the setback, Daniel Altmaier is expected to continue his tennis journey, perhaps aiming for better results in future ATP500 tournaments in Germany. It's worth noting that the ATP500 Tournament in Hamburg is a significant event in the tennis world, drawing participation from top players like local hero Alexander Zverev.
