The investigation by the Feldkirch Public Prosecutor's Office into negligent bodily harm and negligent manslaughter was dropped, confirmed a spokesperson for the APA news agency. According to previous reports by the "Vorarlberg Nachrichten", it could not be determined with the necessary certainty that there was a criminally relevant fault.

The 65-year-old man was on the double chairlift from the mountain station towards the middle station, when his chairlift began to slide and collided with the one in front of it. The man slipped under the safety bar and fell from a height of four meters into steep meadowland. He was rescued but died two weeks later in the hospital.

Despite the tragic fatal accident in Bregenz, the Prosecutor's Office in Feldkirch decided to terminate their investigation into negligent bodily harm and manslaughter. The 65-year-old German tourist's accident on an Austria chairlift in August 2023 remains an unfortunate incident with inconclusive evidence of criminal responsibility.Regardless of the dropped charges, the consequence of this accident has resulted in significant impact, with the victim suffering bodily harm before passing away two weeks later in the hospital in Feldkirch. The incident has also sparked discussions about safety measures and regulations on chairlifts across Austria and other mountainous areas like Bregenz.
