Drinking water supply - Dams in Sachsen-Anhalt are well filled

The water reservoirs in Saxony-Anhalt are currently well-filled after the rainy winter and spring rains. At the Rappbode reservoir in the Harz, the largest drinking water reservoir in Germany, the current water level, according to the reservoir operations manager Sachsen-Anhalt, Burkhard Henning, is almost at 95 million cubic meters. The water quality is also very good this year, Henning added.

A year ago, the water level was at a similar level as it is now. In the winter, the water level had almost reached 105 million cubic meters.

In the autumn and winter, it had rained so much that water had to be controlled released. Henning reassured that there is no need to worry about the water supply. Even in the past, drier years, the water levels have been good. The other drinking water reservoirs in the Harz are also at a similar level as a year ago.

  1. The rapid hydroelectric power plant located at the Rappbode reservoir in Saxony-Anhalt utilizes the abundant water supply effectively, contributing to Germany's renewable energy sources.
  2. The commune relies heavily on the drinking water supply from various reservoirs in Saxony-Anhalt, ensuring the health and well-being of its residents.
  3. The current high water levels in the reservoirs in Saxony-Anhalt are a result of the substantial rainfall experienced during the water year, ensuring a secure drinking water supply even in the drier months.
  4. The dam at the Rappbode reservoir plays a crucial role in regulating the water levels, ensuring the stability of the reservoir and maintaining a consistent water flow for the hydroelectric power plant and drinking water supply.
  5. The excellent water quality in the reservoirs in Saxony-Anhalt is attributed to the efficient water treatment processes and the pristine nature of the source water, primarily from rainfall and springs, which is crucial for the drinking water supply in Germany.
