Danger of forest fires - Currently high risk of forest fires in Saxony
Since the past weekend, the risk of forest fires in Saxony is on the rise again. For the northern part of the Bautzen district and from Leipzig, as well as the Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorfer Forest, the second highest warning level 4 currently applies. Apart from the Vogtland district and some areas in the Erzgebirge, there is a medium danger level, as shown in the current overview on the homepage of the State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology.
Considering expected new weather and rain, the situation will ease from Wednesday, said a spokeswoman of the authority. "It's coming again, the seesaw weather."
In Saxony, there are five forest fire danger levels. Level 1 stands for a very low risk, level 5 for a very high risk. At levels 4 and 5, it is recommended to avoid the affected forest areas. Anyone who is in the woods anyway should not leave the main roads. The districts can issue additional restrictions - carelessness is the most common cause of forest fires in the Free State.
