Current Era Activists Prohibited from Accessing the Island
After an incident at Sylt Airport, the members of the environmental group "Last Generation's Crusade" have been temporarily barred from the island: "A 14-day restriction on staying on the island of Sylt has been imposed on the three individuals," a representative from the Flensburg Police Directorate communicated to the German Press Service upon request. This restriction is in effect until August 23rd.
It's important to note that this restriction does not necessitate checking everyone arriving on Sylt by train, boat, or plane. This is impractical due to the absence of sufficient personnel, the representative clarified. The enforcement of the residence restriction will fall under the daily operations on the island. The Prosecutor's Office in Flensburg has launched an investigation against the three activists due to charges of property damage and trespassing. The exact date of the hearing is yet to be determined.
Two protesters from "Last Generation's Crusade" engaged in a form of peaceful protest on August 10th by gluing themselves to the ground near a private jet at Sylt Airport. Their attempt to paint the aircraft was thwarted by the swift response of airport staff.
A third activist was apprehended at the perimeter fence by the police and subsequently detained. The women were extracted from the ground and also transported away in a police vehicle. The activists had managed to create a breach in the airport fence, allowing them entry.
The temporary 'Island ban' for the three activists from "Last Generation's Crusade" extends until August 23rd, as a consequence of their actions at Sylt Airport. Despite the 'Island ban', the enforcement of the residence restriction is handled within the day-to-day operations on the island.
