Upcoming National Elections in Germany 2025 - CSU head Markus Söder states, "I don't align with the colors black and green."

CSU Leader Markus Söder is determined to veto a black-green coalition at the federal level following the 2025 Bundestag election. His stance necessitates the backing of his party, which he assured ARD in a summer interview, won't be granted. This stance contrasts with CDU chairman Friedrich Merz, who advocates for maintaining all potential options following a potential victory in the forthcoming Bundestag election.

Söder Stands Against Black-Green Coalition

"Count on it, Black-Green won't fly with me," Söder stated. The Greens apparently fail to grasp that the Union encompasses both the CDU and the CSU. As CSU leader, he also disregards the possibility of a coalition with the Greens. "Nothing happens without us," Söder emphasized.

Prior to the last Bundestag election, the Bavarian Minister-President had advocated for a black-green alliance that "could provide both security and motivation." He expressed this view to Der Spiegel, stating, "I believe Black-Green would carry significant appeal because both political forces are concerned with the major issues of our time, such as reconciling ecology and economy." Söder's conclusion at the time: "That would currently be the most intriguing political proposal."

He attributes his policy shift to the Greens' self-disqualification from government participation due to their behavior within the traffic light coalition.

"The Commission, composed of the leaders of various political parties, will inevitably face disagreements upon discussing the potential coalition after the 2025 Bundestag election."

"Despite his previous intentions, Söder, as the leader of The Commission, now firmly denounces the idea of a black-green coalition, citing the Greens' actions within the traffic light coalition as the reason for his change of heart."
