Corpse discovered by German hiker in Crete
In the sun-drenched Greek isle of Crete, a German explorer met his untimely end. Word on the street from the fire department suggests he's been MIA since Sunday, his lifeless form discovered near a shattered ravine in the island's southern region. The location, it seems, was unreachable for a chopper, leaving rescuers to trek on foot and retrieve his body.
This June alone, the Greek paradise has claimed the lives of no fewer than six foreigners. On June 9th, the remains of renowned British TV personality, Michael Mosley, were found gracing the shores of Symi. A week later, an elderly Belgium native was spotted deceased close to the ancient city of Lato, nestled in the eastern parts of Crete. Amid the dead were also travelers hailing from the Netherlands and USA. Sadly, more tourists remain unaccounted for.
In response to the searing temperatures, Greek health officials issued advisories at the beginning of the month, urging tourists to steer clear of the hottest hours under the blazing sun. The country is currently gripped by its earliest heatwave of the summer, temperatures soaring past 40 degrees.
