Karlsruhe - Convicted stabber fails appeal at the BGH

A man who was sentenced to several years in prison due to a knife attack in the inner city of Mainz has failed in his legal remedies against the verdict at the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe. The BGH dismissed the appeal: The review of the judgment did not result in legal errors to the detriment of the accused.

At the time of the verdict, the man was 40 years old. The Mainz Regional Court had sentenced him to a prison term of six years for the attempted murder in conjunction with grievous bodily harm in November 2022. The judges found the accused guilty of the offense during the sentencing hearing. The victim was a 30-year-old man.

The knife attack in Mainz, resulting in a six-year prison sentence, was initially contested by the accused at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe. Regardless, the rhetorics of review did not uncover any legal errors favoring the defendant, leading to the BGH's dismissal of the appeal. After the crime, the accused, who was 40 years old, was transferred to a prison in Rhineland-Palatinate.
