At Infineon chip fabricator's construction site in Dresden, a 30-year-old worker was seriously injured and another worker, aged 26, was critically injured when a scaffolding platform fell from a height of 10 meters. The workers were at the accident site at the time, according to the fire department. They had fallen into the basement.

During the rescue operation, the fire department explored potential rescue routes. Eventually, a scaffolding platform was lowered from one of the cranes on the construction site to the accident scene. The injured workers and the rescue team were then lifted up and taken to the waiting ambulances.

40 firefighters and paramedics on site - Cause unknown

A total of 40 firefighters and paramedics were on site. The cause of the scaffolding platform falling was initially unclear. The police have taken over the investigation.

Infineon initiated the final phase of construction at its site in Dresden's Klotzsche district at the end of May. With the factory expansion, 1,000 new jobs are to be created. The production start is planned for 2026.

Following the scaffolding accident, Infineon Technologies decided to temporarily halt construction activities at the site until the cause of the accident is fully investigated and appropriate safety measures can be implemented. They will then rebuild with a stronger focus on worker safety.
