- Concluding wave observed towards the end of summer vacation in North Rhine-Westphalia
As the last blast of summer in North Rhine-Westphalia approached, approximately 10,000 travelers touch down at Germany's busiest state's airports each day over the weekend. Classes in NRW start back up on a Wednesday.
A representative from Düsseldorf Airport spoke with the German Press Agency, predicting around 70,000 passengers on Friday and Saturday, and over 71,000 on Sunday and Monday.
Cologne-Bonn Airport projected a whopping 121,000 passengers in total over the weekend, with most of them being returning vacationers.
The automobile club, ADAC, predicted a substantial increase in traffic jams on the North Rhine-Westphalia highways compared to a regular weekend not during holidays. However, they managed to steer clear of major gridlock on both Saturday and Sunday.
The high volume of travelers is expected to bring economic boost to various businesses in Germany. Many of these arriving travelers are likely to visit popular tourist destinations across the country, such as Berlin and Munich.
