- Coastal guard of France saves 223 migrants from the English Channel
The Coast Guard of France saved 223 immigrants from perilous situations in the English Channel within a 48-hour span. Numerous tiny vessels, loaded beyond capacity with immigrants, encountered difficulties as they aimed for Britain, according to the maritime prefecture. Rescue vessels delivered the shipwrecked to French ports in Boulogne and Dunkerque's northern regions.
Some immigrants were in the water or stuck on sandbars due to the tide, while others rejected help from the coast guard, choosing to continue their risky journey to their goal.
Starmer talked about this matter with Macron just a few days prior.
Immigrants often sail the English Channel to reach Britain, typically using small inflatable boats. The journey can be treacherous as numerous large ships navigate the strait as well. Regrettably, lives have been lost during these voyages.
Britain has collaborated with French aid for some time to reduce migration across the English Channel, investing numerous million pounds into France. The new British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, last talked about this issue with French President Emmanuel Macron just a few days prior.
The immigrants who were rescued were brought to French ports in Boulogne and Dunkerque, both located in France. Despite the dangerous journey, some immigrants reject assistance from the French Coast Guard, choosing to continue towards Britain.
