Coastal guard of France saves 223 migrants from Strait of Dover

The French Coast Guard saved 223 distressed migrants along the English Channel within a 48-hour span. The maritime prefecture reported numerous miniature vessels, frequently carrying excessive migrants, facing troubles en route to the UK. These vessels would be aided by rescue ships, transporting the shipwrecked to the French ports of Boulogne and Dunkirk.

Some of these migrants were already adrift at sea or stranded on sandbars due to the tide. Others stubbornly refused help from the coast guard, choosing to press on with their perilous journey toward their desired destination.

Migrants frequently risk crossing the English Channel to reach the UK, frequently using small inflatable boats for the journey. This dangerous journey is made more treacherous by the numerous large vessels that traverse the strait, often leading to fatalities during these crossings.

Britain has been attempting to limit migration across the English Channel for some time, with French cooperation and substantial financial investment. The newest British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, recently discussed this issue with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, on a Thursday meeting.

Despite the risks and dangers, migrants continue to attempt crossings in overcrowded vessels. Unfortunately, these attempts often result in close encounters with larger ships, increasing the threat of accidents or collisions.
