Classic small car Suzuki Swift gets a complete makeover
The new edition of the Suzuki Swift, which will be launched on the market in a few months, could be mistaken for a facelift on the outside. However, the small car has undergone some technical changes.
Suzuki is launching a new edition of the classic small car Swift in Germany in April 2024. At first glance, the seventh generation is highly recognizable, but a closer look reveals many new features compared to its predecessor.
For example, the future high-gloss black, one-piece radiator grille does away with the Suzuki S, which has been moved to the top of the painted area between the radiator grille and hood. The upcoming Swift also features modified headlights with a new daytime running light signature. Instead of being hidden in the C-pillars as before, the rear door handles are now clearly visible on the door panel. The rear has new tail lights. Radar and camera sensors will also be integrated at the rear in future.
Cameras can also be found at the front and inside, which allows for a more extensive arsenal of assistance systems. The upcoming Swift offers collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, cross-traffic alert as well as blind spot and lane departure warning. The interior camera monitors the driver. If the driver shows signs of drowsiness, the on-board system warns them to take a break.
Driver-centered cockpit with 9-inch touchscreen
Inside, the Swift, which is still 3.86 meters short, features a two-tone dashboard with satin-finish surfaces and a driver-centric cockpit. A 9-inch touchscreen is located in the center of the dashboard, which can also be used to display smartphone content via Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In conjunction with the Suzuki Connect app, the user can display the current location of the vehicle and be informed via geofencing if the vehicle leaves certain areas. The app also provides information about recalls or inspection intervals.
The standard 265-liter trunk can be expanded to a maximum of 980 liters.
Fuel-saving drive thanks to mild hybrid technology
The Swift's new drive system is a 61 kW/84 hp 1.2-liter petrol engine, which offers an extra boost in propulsion and saves fuel thanks to mild hybrid technology. The three-cylinder engine, which can be combined with all-wheel drive and CVT automatic transmission on request, delivers 61 kW/84 hp. The single-tonner is fastest in the front-wheel drive version with CVT, which reaches speeds of up to 170 km/h. Suzuki states the lowest fuel consumption of 4.6 liters for the front-wheel drive version with manual transmission.
Suzuki Germany has not yet announced any prices for the new Swift. In view of the improved equipment with sensor technology and new assistance systems, the base price is likely to rise from the current 17,600 to around 19,000 euros.
