Hard conflict - City-Bahn Chemnitz negotiating fares again failed

In the long-running wage dispute at the Chemnitz City-Railway, a new attempt has not yielded any results. According to the German Locomotive Engineers' Union (GDL), the wage negotiations have once again failed. Therefore, further strikes are unavoidable.

The wage offer presented at the negotiation round on Friday in Leipzig was evaluated by the GDL as a provocation. While the City-Railway's offer includes a reduction of working hours to 35 hours per week without a wage reduction, "this improvement, according to the employer's will, should be financed by the GDL members themselves", the union stated. "This is not possible with the GDL", added GDL chairman Claus Weselsky. The City-Railway has already been on strike 15 times in a row.

The City-Railway operates in the Chemnitz area and on several railway lines in Central and Western Saxony. Around 185 people work for the municipal company. The latest development in the wage dispute did not yet have a statement from the employer.

  1. Despite the Tariff Negotiation between the City-Railway and the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) in Chemnitz, the TariffConflict over wages continues, leading to a 'Strike round'.
  2. Regarding the latest Tariff negotiation round in Leipzig, the GDL strongly condemned the City-Railway's proposal, considering it a provocation towards the Union members.
  3. The GDL chairperson, Claus Weselsky, affirmed that the City-Railway's proposal to finance wage improvements with Union members' contributions is not feasible, as per the GDL's rules.
  4. Due to the ongoing TariffConflict, the GDL members have conducted 15 strikes against the City-Railway, affecting the railway operations in Chemnitz and several lines in Saxony.
  5. The German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) is adamantly opposing the City-Railway's Fare adjustment proposals, stating that they will impact the union members' earning potential, further complicating the TariffConflict in Chemnitz.
