- Citizens advised to evacuate due to "titan-like blazes"
In California, huge wildfires are still spreading rapidly. As per the fire department Calfire, three significant blazes in this West Coast state are either fully contained or barely under control at the moment. Authorities have advised residents in certain southern counties to evacuate the threat zone. Various roads have been shut down in numerous areas.
The "Los Angeles Times" referred to these fires as "beasts": The Bridge Fire, situated northeast of Los Angeles, exploded in size to over eight times its original area within a few hours. Based on Calfire's reports, the Bridge Fire is currently engulfing approximately 187 square kilometers of land. Since the Line Fire initiated in San Bernardino County last Thursday, a total of 13 individuals have been harmed, including 11 firefighters, according to the daily newspaper.
Residents in Southern California are suffering from smog due to fires
On Tuesday, the flames of a fire that had been burning since Monday reached the vicinity of an airport around an hour south of Los Angeles in Orange County. Known as the Airport Fire, it continues to spread, according to Calfire. Over 600 firefighters are on the ground with air support. The cause of the Airport Fire hasn't been officially announced yet.
The fires have negatively affected air quality in Southern California, as reported by US broadcaster CBS, citing the responsible authorities. This has resulted in a hazardous high on the index far surpassing an acceptable level.
Wildfires bring about significant destruction to forests as well as residential areas annually in California. The region has experienced intense heat in recent days. With the influence of climate change, experts caution that fires will occur more frequently and with more devastating force.
The Los Angeles Times also reported that the Bridge Fire, one of the major wildfires in California, has forced the closure of several roads in the area. Despite the efforts of over 600 firefighters, the Airport Fire, another significant wildfire near Los Angeles, continues to spread, causing concern among residents and officials.
