Christian Wolter elected as AFD mayor in Teterow

The AfD politician Christian Wolter has been elected mayor of Teterow. 'The dominoes have begun to fall', the AfD state chairman explains.

Elections - Christian Wolter elected as AFD mayor in Teterow

The AfD politician Christian Wolter has been elected as the mayor of Teterow town council by the city council. "We will have to find common ground on the issues that move the citizens, while maintaining decency, respect, and democratic customs – and respecting the historical context of the last decades," commented Teterow's mayor Andreas Lange (party-less) on the election result.

AfD state leader Leif-Erik Holm congratulated Wolter and said: "The fall of the Berlin Wall has begun." And: "Germany needs a turnaround at all levels. We in the East are starting this."

According to the city's information, Wolter received eleven yes votes in the election on Tuesday, his CDU opponent received nine votes, and one vote was invalid. The city council now consists of five groups and parties. Besides the strongest factions of AfD (seven members) and CDU (seven members), the SPD (three members), "The Teterower" (two members), and the UTF (Independent Teterower Faction, two members) are also present.

There are 8,700 people living in the town.

The election win for Christian Wolter, a representative of the AfD party, took place in the town council of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This victory marks a significant shift in the town's administration, as Wolter will now lead the city council. Following the election, Wolter's CDU opposing candidate expressed the importance of finding common ground and adhering to democratic customs.
