After attack on children's hospital - China also "deeply concerned": criticism of Russia in the UN Security Council

Members of the United Nations Security Council strongly condemn Russia's actions in Ukraine resulting in casualties at a children's clinic. "We are here today because Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council and currently the President of the Security Council, has attacked a children's hospital – and it sends a chill down my spine to even say that sentence," said the American UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield during an emergency session of the most powerful UN body in New York. Russia is scheduled to preside over the Council in July.

The British Ambassador Barbara Woodward added, "Russia's behavior is a disgrace for the Security Council and particularly for the Presidency." France's representative Nicolas de Rivière spoke of "another entry and a list of war crimes" for which Russia must be held accountable.

Over 30 Dead Alone in Kiev after Russia's Latest Attack

China's deputy ambassador Geng Shuang expressed caution and did not place Moscow on the dock, but he also sent a signal to Russia. "Unfortunately, the fighting has not subsided but rather intensified, and there have been frequent brutal attacks that caused heavy casualties. China is deeply concerned about this," he said. The director of the attacked children's hospital, Volodymyr Shovkun, also spoke to the Security Council and described the moment of the strike and the explosion at the clinic as "a real hell."

The strike on Monday severely damaged the hospital. According to official reports, at least two adults were killed, including a doctor. Thirty-two people were injured, eight of them children. A total of over 30 people were killed in Kiev alone due to the Russian attack, which also destroyed residential buildings.
