If a mom passes away inside a trash bin, the kid is fine. He's with family in Hungary and never faced danger, the police stated on Monday. They initially concerned that a helpless child could be inside a house because of a Caesarean section scar found on the mysterious woman. The police later discovered the 36-year-old woman from Peine.

Apparently, she entered the old trash container on Sunday and got stuck around her neck while doing so, according to police reports. They believe it was an accident. The initial reason for the woman's entry was unknown.

Following a witness appeal on Sunday night, information related to the woman's cultural background and tattoos on her arms were received by the police Monday. The woman bore no personal documents with her.

The police were looking into the woman's background and her potential child in need. They started their search in the region since the news broke on Monday morning. They also contacted hospitals and checked police records. If no key information had been found, neighbors would then be questioned.

The entire country paid attention to the incident, with regards to the woman's death and the possible endangerment of a child, according to police statements. "Apart from significant concern for the woman's fate and that of the potentially at-risk child, useful leads to the investigation arrived at the police station," the statement said.

The trash container was cut open

The trash container stood on a supermarket parking lot close to a major road. The morning after the incident, there were only minimal traces left. Only one container remained there. A dpa journalist witnessed that another container had been beside it until recently.

In order to free the deceased woman from the container, the fire department had to use massive machinery to cut it open, as per police reports. This container was later secured for further investigations.

Fatal incidents involving clothing containers are not uncommon. In Berlin, for example, rescue personnel dug out a deceased person in May, with part of his body trapped inside the container. There was also a case in Weinstadt, Baden-Württemberg, in November 2022; a 26-year-old woman died, presumably attempting to climb inside the container to retrieve discarded clothing. She got her upper body stuck in the hatch. There was also a similar incident in Hilchenbach near Siegen in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2021.

"People occasionally attempt to step into used clothing containers and sustain injuries or even die," said Stefan Voigt, the vice president responsible for textile recycling at the Federal Association of Secondary Raw Materials and Waste. Still, these containers have improved over the years in terms of safety - like by narrowing the entry gaps. Credible donors would also post emergency phone numbers at collection points in case something was inadvertently discarded. There are also texts and icons warning against entering them and implying the risk of death.
