At a lake in Bensheim, Hesse, a young lad of seven tragically drowned. He was reported missing on a Sunday evening, prompting a rigorous search by emergency services that lasted for hours. Eventually, his lifeless body was discovered.

The reason behind the drowning yet to be identified

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The family of the deceased was provided assistance by a crisis team and an imam. The scene was attended by personnel from the THW Bensheim, the Bensheim fire department, the DLRG from Bensheim, Heppenheim, and Lampertheim. They utilized eight divers, canine units trained in water detection, a sonar boat, and a helicopter in their search.

This natural lake, boasting a 300-meter-long sandy shoreline and an expansive sunbathing lawn, is renowned as a popular summertime spot for locals and visitors alike. Spanning approximately seven hectares, the lake's surface is adorned with lush greenery, and at its deepest point, it plunges to a maximum of 17 meters.

The DLRG teams from Bensheim, Heppenheim, and Lampertheim joined the rescue effort at the lake. Despite their extensive resources, including eight divers, canine units, a sonar boat, and a helicopter, it took hours to locate the young lad's body.
