In a recent court case for the murder of a newborn baby, the parents remained quiet during the first hearing at the Bielefeld District Court on Tuesday. Their legal representatives informed dpa that they would keep silent in their defense for now. Prior to the reading of the indictment, the 20-year-old mother and 22-year-old father made brief comments about themselves.

The prosecution accuses these two German nationals of murder. Reportedly, investigators believe that the couple had planned to murder the newborn before its birth in November 2023. The reason? Their life plan didn't include the child. The couple considered adopting the baby when they learned about the pregnancy, but it was too late for an abortion at that point. However, with help from acquaintances, they could have still adopted. Still, they proceeded with the crime.

The baby was killed after birth with multiple stab wounds in a Bielefeld apartment. On the same night, the accused reportedly transported the baby's body, which was wrapped in a cooler bag, to a wooded area in Bielefeld. After suspicious signs appeared, the parents were apprehended in December 2023. It was then that the father provided information on the location of the crime.

The initial hearing on the first day of the trial was focused on reading the indictment. The parents of the deceased infant displayed a composed exterior. The trial resumes on June 21st.
