Chat with Copilot on Telegram Now
Chatbot applications such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot are designed for interactive communication. Given this, it's only logical that chat apps would want to incorporate chatbots into their platform, regardless of whether users actually engage with them.
Telegram is the most recent app to welcome a chatbot onto its platform. The chosen chatbot? Copilot. Although Copilot has appeared on other Microsoft-owned platforms, Telegram is among the first third-party programs to offer a Copilot interface directly. If you launch the app today, you won't spot anything obvious.
Upon learning about Copilot's integration with Telegram, I launched the app and was greeted with an empty space. It's not uncommon for new features to be rolled out gradually across users, but the process of accessing Copilot in Telegram is a tad complicated. You need to search for "Copilot" using its Telegram username, @CopilotOfficialBot. Be cautious, as you'll find a list of unauthorized options when you search for "Copilot" alone. I urge you to steer clear of chatting with any bots you encounter on Telegram, especially those claiming to be legitimate.
Alternatively, you can access it via Microsoft's "Copilot for Telegram" website. Upon opening the link on the device you use for Telegram, you'll be redirected to Telegram.
Regardless of the path you choose to take, you'll end up in a new chat window with Copilot. At the top, you'll encounter a message stating that Copilot in Telegram is in beta. Press "Start" to interact with the bot. To proceed, you'll need to acknowledge the AI's risks, which include hallucinations. Hit "I Accept" to continue.
Next, you'll be prompted to share your Telegram-associated phone number with Copilot. Press "Send my mobile number" and then "OK" to share your number. No need to wait for a verification text; once you've shared your number, you're free to proceed.
You can now ask the bot questions and tasks for various subjects, and it will respond accordingly. This version of Copilot is connected to the internet, allowing it to provide you with real-time information. However, you cannot utilize Copilot's image generator within Telegram. If you attempt to do so, the bot will redirect you to the main website, iOS app, or Android app.
There's not much here that's unique to Telegram, aside from a function that allows you to share an invitation to your friends to try Copilot. You are also limited to 30 "conversations" per day.
This integration likely represents an attempt by Microsoft to increase Copilot's user base. Perhaps you would not download the Copilot app on your own, but as a dedicated Telegram user, you might be enticed to test the bot during your conversations. I predict this won't be the only Copilot collaboration we'll see from Microsoft as they continue to expand their AI strategy.
