80-year celebration of D-Day event - Charles calls for unity in facing tyranny during D-Day.
The current British monarch, King Charles III, acknowledged and honored the heroic allied soldiers during the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. In a ceremony held in Ver-sur-Mer, France, the 75-year-old king commemorated those who never made it back home. He sadly pointed out that many lost their lives on those fateful D-Day beaches and in the battles that followed.
King Charles III expressed his profound thanks to the fallen and those who bravely served during that time. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of unified nations in standing up against tyranny, as demonstrated by the Allied forces landing in Normandy on June 6, 1944, ultimately freeing Western Europe from the Nazis.
William, Prince of Wales and future heir to the throne, along with his wife Queen Camilla, also joined the ceremonies. So did the President of France Emmanuel Macron and the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. This was Charles's first official foreign trip since announcing his cancer diagnosis in February.
During the event, William delivered a speech at a separate ceremony held in honor of Canadian soldiers. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden was present at the commemoration for American troops.
