Bürgerschaft (German term for citizen's legislative assembly or municipal parliament) - CDU-Faction discusses acceptance of Treuenfels-Frowein
Hamburg's CDU-City Parliament Faction will discuss on Monday (9:00 am) about the immediate intake of Anna von Treuenfels-Frowein, who switched from the FDP to the CDU. The approval of the 15 parliamentarians is certain, as Fraktion and Party Leader Dennis Thering spoke enthusiastically about it from excited colleagues and faction members last Friday.
Treuenfels-Frowein justified her switch from the FDP to the CDU by stating that she could no longer represent the FDP's positions at the federal level within the traffic light coalition. She cited issues such as the Cannabis regulation, citizens' income, or shortened naturalization waiting periods.
Treuenfels-Frowein is expected to take second place on the state list.
Thering considers the switch a "real coup." To fully unfold its effect, Treuenfels-Frowein will also lead the party behind CDU-Leader Thering on the state list for the Citizens' Assembly election in March 2025.
The 62-year-old found her way into politics in 2008 through the citizen initiative "We want to learn," which successfully opposed the plans of the then black-red coalition for the founding of primary schools. From there, she went to the FDP, with which she entered the parliament in 2011.
62-year-old was the only FDP parliamentarian with a direct mandate
The FDP failed at the 2020 election to surpass the five-percent hurdle. Treuenfels-Frowein, however, won a direct mandate in the Blankenese constituency and was the only FDP politician to make it into the parliament. In early 2022, the FDP gained a second parliamentarian, Sami Musa, who had defected from the SPD.
- The CDU's discussion about Anna von Treuenfels-Frowein's immediate integration into their faction could potentially influence the party's strategy for the upcoming Citizens' Assembly election in Hamburg, Germany.
- Anna von Treuenfels-Frowein's decision to switch from the FDP to the CDU might impact the party positions in Germany, notably on topics such as cannabis regulation, citizens' income, and shortened naturalization waiting periods.
- During the Citizens' Assembly election in March 2025, the CDU-Leader Thering will be followed by treuenfels-Frowein on the state list, which could strengthen the party's position amidst intense political discourse in Hamburg, Germany.
