Energy - Capacity of large battery storage should be increased

The performance of the large Battery Storage in Schwerin is set to be increased in the future. Starting from October, there will be 16 Megawatts available instead of 14, as Wemag announced. The storage facility was put into operation ten years ago and was reportedly the largest commercial Battery Storage in Europe at the time.

The fully automated plant thus compensates for short-term fluctuations in the grid frequency in the power grid and ensures that wind and solar energy can be safely integrated into the grid. The storage consists of over 50,000 batteries.

Schweriner Wemag AG, according to its own statements, is a nationwide ecological energy supplier with regional power grid operations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg. They are responsible for thousands of kilometers of power lines with Wemag Netz GmbH.

The increase in capacity of the Battery Storage in Schwerin will significantly contribute to the energy supply in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as it will provide an additional 2 Megawatts of electricity storage. Schwerin, being a key location for Wemag's ecological energy initiatives, is set to become even more crucial in the region's transition towards sustainable energy sources.
