Campaign paused - Biden has Corona
US-President Biden is fighting on all fronts for his presidential campaign. In the coming days, he will have to do this from home: The 81-year-old has tested positive for Coronavirus.
US-President Joe Biden tested positive for Coronavirus during a campaign trip in Las Vegas. He reportedly has "mild symptoms," according to the White House. The 81-year-old will return to his home state of Delaware, self-isolate there, and continue to fulfill all his duties, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. Biden himself said he feels "good."
Biden had planned to attend a Congress of the non-profit organization Unidos US in Las Vegas, the largest interest representation of Latinos in the US. First, its CEO Janet Murguía made the infection public and told guests of the event that the President regretted not being able to attend.
Dr. Kevin O'Connor, the President's personal doctor, wrote that Biden presented with respiratory issues on a Wednesday afternoon. He had a runny nose, unproductive cough, and general discomfort. A confirmation of the test results from a PCR test was still pending. The President had received his first dose of the Covid-medication Paxlovid.
Last Infection Two Years Ago
Biden was last positive for the virus two years ago in the summer. He was also treated with Paxlovid back then and became positive for Coronavirus again a few days after the end of his Corona isolation. This was described at the time as a "rebound," which occurs in rare cases in patients treated with Paxlovid. Biden had a mild course of the disease according to White House statements.
Biden falls into the risk group due to his advanced age. With regard to the presidential election in November, Biden's health condition is a topic of discussion. Some Democrats are calling for him to abandon his re-election bid following the disastrous TV debate against his Republican challenger Donald Trump.
Despite testing positive for Coronaviruses once again, as reported two years ago, Joe Biden's current symptoms are mild. Due to his diagnosis, the US-President will continue his presidential campaign from his home in Delaware, receiving Corona vaccination as needed.
