Cable fires - State protection examines confession

In Berlin and Bremen, cable bundles on railway tracks are causing major disruptions to traffic. A manifesto has now appeared on a left-wing platform, stating that the fires are intended to cause "disruptions in capitalist routines". The state security department is investigating.

Following fires in cable shafts on railway tracks in Berlin and Bremen, a manifesto has appeared on a left-wing platform. The state security department of the Bremen police is investigating its authenticity, the police announced. The fires led to significant disruptions in regional and long-distance traffic, affecting thousands of rail passengers.

The manifesto was published on the left-wing platform Indymedia. It states: "The outages caused by these attacks hopefully result in effective disruptions in capitalist routines." The German Railway (Deutsche Bahn) serves as the backbone of the German economy and provides the fuel that drives it.

Arson attack in the north

In Bremen, the perpetrators deliberately set fire to the cables in a cable shaft on a railway embankment early on Monday morning, as the police announced. The criminal police have taken over the investigation and secured traces and evidence. The state security department is investigating a politically motivated background.

Due to the damage, no ICE trains could initially run between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hamburg via the Bremen main station on Monday. Regional trains on the Hamburg-Bremen route were also affected by the disruptions.

Restrictions in Berlin until Tuesday

On Thursday night, a fire broke out in a cable shaft of the railway in Berlin, leading to significant restrictions in long-distance, regional, and S-Bahn traffic. According to the railway, these restrictions are expected to continue until Tuesday. "Because several cables are affected, the repair work will continue over the weekend," it said. The railway speaks of "vandalism damage".

The section between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Berlin-Spandau is affected. The stop in Berlin-Spandau is therefore cancelled. Long-distance trains are being rerouted via the northern outer ring to Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and the main station - and are therefore taking longer. Regional trains are also being rerouted, delayed, or stops are not being served.

In response to the arson attack in Bremen, the state security department of the Bremen police is intensively investigating the case for potential politically motivated intentions. The fires in cable shafts on railway tracks in Bremen and Berlin have led to extensive disruptions in regional and long-distance traffic, including the cancellation of ICE trains between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hamburg via the Bremen main station.
