Climate protests - Business at Frankfurt Airport is running normally again
One day after the climate demonstrators' protest at Frankfurt Airport, operations there are running normally again. A spokesperson for the responsible Federal Police stated this morning that there are no known flight disruptions.
Activists from the group Last Generation managed to enter the secured area of Germany's largest airport on Thursday morning and successfully attached themselves to the heads of both central runways. The airport operations were therefore halted for a while. According to airport operator Fraport, at least 200 of the 1,400 planned flights for Thursday were cancelled.
According to the police, eight suspicious activists were arrested. The group Last Generation wrote on the platform X on Thursday evening that all people at Frankfurt Airport were now free.
Passengers were affected by the action during the peak travel period, and according to a Fraport spokesperson, the effects of the protest were still noticeable on Thursday evening.
The demonstration at Frankfurt Airport, led by Last Generation, attracted attention not just in Hesse, but across Germany. The Climate protest disrupted normal Air traffic, causing delays and cancellations, with Fraport reporting at least 200 flight disruptions on Thursday. The Federal Police, involved in the situation, arrested eight individuals deemed suspicious by authorities. Despite the protest's end, the impact on Frankfurt Airport's Air traffic remained noticeable well into the evening.
