- Bus crash on A72: seven injured
A tourist bus has crashed on the A72 motorway in Saxony's Vogtland region. According to police reports, seven people were injured. The 62-year-old bus driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, as confirmed by the police. Several media outlets had previously reported this.
The bus, carrying 40 passengers, veered off the road between the Treuen and Plauen-Ost junctions for unknown reasons and ended up in a bush. Among the injured is a 13-year-old girl.
The motorway had to be completely closed for nearly two hours. Since midday, at least one direction has been reopened. "However, the direction towards Hof remains closed for some hours due to recovery operations," the police spokesperson emphasized. The damage is estimated in the high five-figure range.
The tourists on the bus were initially transported to nearby facilities, but the bus driver needed specialized care at the hospital. Despite the incident, several alternative buses were arranged to ensure the stranded passengers could continue their journeys.
