Bus accident on the A24 - 16 injured

Again, a travel bus comes off the road during a nighttime journey and tips over to the side. Sixteen passengers sustained facial injuries due to shattered window glass. This marks the fourth severe bus accident within the past three months.

At a bus accident on the A24 motorway, sixteen people were injured during the night on a Friday. The Polish bus with 59 passengers on board came off the road between Hamburg and Berlin, according to initial findings, and collided with the median barrier and a traffic sign, as the police reported.

Upon impact, all windows on the left side of the bus were damaged, and glass shards injured 16 passengers in the face. The severity of the injuries remained unclear, according to a police spokesperson. The accident occurred near the town of Blievenstorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the direction of Hamburg.

Fire department and emergency medical services closed off the affected section of the road thereafter. The cleanup efforts are currently underway, as the spokesperson stated. The fire department is working to remove the uninjured passengers from the accident scene.

Fourth Accident in Three Months

As early as March 2024, there were two severe bus accidents within a short time. On the A9 motorway near Leipzig, a travel bus with 54 passengers en route from Berlin to Zurich came off the road and overturned. Four women died, and several people were injured.

Shortly thereafter, on the A44 motorway near Werl in North Rhine-Westphalia, a travel bus with approximately 60 passengers came off the road and overturned. Twenty people were injured. The bus contained students from a vocational college in Warburg. They were on their way back from a trip to England. In April, a travel bus overturned on the A45 motorway in the Sauerland region, and four adolescents were seriously injured.

The international bus trip on the A45 motorway in the Sauerland region experienced another unfortunate incident, as a bus overturned in April, resulting in four teenagers being severely injured. This tragic event adds to the growing concern about bus safety on freeways, following three severe accidents within the past three months.

Highway accidents are not uncommon, as evidenced by the polish bus incident on the A24 freeway between Hamburg and Berlin, which collided with the median barrier, resulting in sixteen passengers sustaining facial injuries from broken glass.
