Bundeswehr buys Airbus satellites for 2.1 billion euros
The Bundeswehr has awarded Airbus a large contract for the construction of two telecommunications satellites. The contract is worth 2.1 billion Euros and includes satellites and the corresponding ground stations, according to the aviation and defense conglomerate in Munich. The contract also includes the ground stations.
The new systems, according to Airbus, will be able to keep up with larger data transfer volumes and weigh around six tons. Central parts come from Germany. The Bundeswehr plans to put the telecommunications satellites into operation before the end of the decade. They will be operated by Airbus for a period of 15 years.
The telecommunications satellites, built by Airbus, will be utilized by the German Armed Forces for data transmission. The contract value, primarily in Euros, exceeds a billion. The German Armed Forces will rely on Airbus satellites, which are larger and more capable of handling greater data volumes.
