Bulgaria: New elections after failed government formation
In Bulgaria, fresh elections are being held after three failed attempts to form a government. An interim cabinet will lead the government in the EU country until a regular government is established after the elections, scheduled for October 20. Rumen Radev, the country's president, has tasked Goriza Grantscharova-Koscharewa, the head of the National Audit Office in Sofia, with forming an interim cabinet by August 19.
"The main task of this cabinet will be to organize and conduct fair elections," Grantscharova-Koscharewa said after her nomination at the presidential office. This will be the seventh parliamentary election in Bulgaria since April 2021, with the most recent one taking place on June 9.
The nomination of Grantscharova-Koscharewa marks a step towards the formation of an interim government, overseeing Bulgaria until a regular one is established post-elections. After the elections on October 20, the process of government formation will resume, aiming to form a stable administration for the EU country.
