"Buffalo man" wants to run in US congressional elections

In early 2021, fanatical Trump supporters storm the Capitol in Washington. Among them is a conspiracy supporter known as the "Buffalo Man". After serving his sentence, he wants to return to the Capitol next year - but this time by Democratic means.

Jacob Chansley, who became known as the "QAnon Shaman" with his buffalo horn fur hat during the Capitol storming on January 6, 2021, wants to run for the US Congress. Chansley submitted a declaration of intent to run for the Libertarian Party in the state of Arizona. The next congressional elections will take place in around a year's time, on November 5, 2024, at the same time as the presidential election.

Chansley stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, together with other supporters of President-elect Donald Trump. Pictures of Chansley with a naked torso full of tattoos with motifs from Norse mythology, a painted face, a fur hat with buffalo horns and a spear with a US flag went around the world. The media referred to him as the "buffalo man" or "horn man". The self-proclaimed "shaman" and follower of the QAnon conspiracy ideology became one of the best-known Capitol attackers - and a face of the January 6 violence.

Chansley later expressed his disappointment with Trump several times. He once said in a statement that he had "dropped a lot of peaceful people" and was not honorable. In November 2021, he was sentenced to almost three and a half years in prison for the Capitol storm. However, he was released early in the spring. His lawyer had argued that the mid-thirties man had been suffering from mental health problems for a long time, including temporary schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and an anxiety disorder. Chansley is also said to have renounced the "QAnon" myth.

QAnon followers believe that a global Satanist elite abducts, tortures, abuses and murders children in order to extract a rejuvenation serum from their blood. They are also said to be planning to turn the USA into a dictatorship. At the heart of the conspiracy ideology is the alleged existence of an anonymous insider in the highest political circles who goes by the name of "Q". In the narrative, Trump appears as a savior who fights the elite.

Despite being sentenced to prison for his involvement in storming the Capitol in Washington during the US congressional elections in 2021, Jacob Chansley, better known as the "QAnon Shaman," has expressed interest in running for the US Congress in the upcoming elections. This unexpected move by the Buffalo Man, a prominent figure in the Capitol riots, has sparked controversy due to his past actions and conspiracy theory beliefs.
