Fill up - BSW will make fuel prices a campaign issue

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) will make high gas prices a campaign issue in Saxony and Thuringia. In both states, a new state parliament will be elected on September 1st. "The thieves at the gas pump, who particularly affect Saxony and Thuringia, must come to an end," Sahra Wagenknecht told the German Press Agency. "It can't be that gas is still more expensive in the East."

"Since Saxony leads in diesel and Thuringia in gasoline, the respective state governments should also address this. Taxes and fees on gas are particularly high in the European comparison," argued the Bundestag deputy. The BSW demands the abolition of the CO2 price, which currently accounts for around 12 cents of the gas price. "In addition, the oil embargo, which harms us and not Russia, must fall."

In the monthly statistics of the ADAC, eastern German federal states often appear with higher gas prices. At the reference date in June, drivers paid the most for their fuel in Bremen and Saxony. In Bremen, a liter of Super E10 cost an average of 1.801 euros. Saxony was the most expensive for drivers of diesel cars. A liter cost an average of 1.706 euros here. Only slightly cheaper was it in Brandenburg with a price of 1.700 euros.

The ADAC recommends drivers to use fuel savings opportunities at the pump consistently. This strengthens competition on the gas market and is ultimately to the advantage of all consumers, it said. According to the ADAC, comparatively cheap gas stations should be steered to favorable tanking times. "In general, the best time window for this is between 7 and 8 pm and between 10 and 11 pm, then prices are the lowest in the daily price development. Gas is, however, more expensive at almost every gas station in the morning shortly after 7 am."

  1. Sahra Wagenknecht, a prominent figure in the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), has chosen high gas prices as a campaign theme for the upcoming elections in Saxony and Thuringia.
  2. The BSW argues that the high taxes and fees on gas, particularly in Saxony and Thuringia, contribute to the elevated fuel prices.
  3. Sahra Wagenknecht, a Bundestag deputy, criticized the situation, stating that it's unacceptable for gas to be more expensive in the eastern German states.
  4. In the monthly statistics provided by the ADAC, eastern German federal states often emerge with higher gas prices compared to other parts of Germany.
  5. At a gas station in Saxony, drivers of diesel cars paid an average of 1.706 euros per liter, making it one of the most expensive states for diesel fuel in Germany.
  6. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) demands the abolition of the CO2 price, which currently adds around 12 cents to the gas price, to alleviate fuel costs.
  7. In Dresden, in the heart of Saxony, motorists are closely following this campaign theme, as traffic and fuel cost are significant concerns for many residents.
  8. The German Automobile Association (ADAC) advises drivers to utilize fuel savings opportunities at gas stations, which can help lower costs and improve market competition.
  9. Despite these efforts, gas prices remain high, and motorists in Germany are still paying more for fuel at most gas stations in the morning compared to the evening, according to the ADAC.
