Protection of minors - Brussels tightens requirements for online sex platform

The porn and adult content platform Xnxx must comply with stricter rules regarding illegal content on the internet in the future. The EU Commission classified it as a "very large online platform" under the new Digital Services Act (DSA), as they announced. This obliges the platform, among other things, to prevent access of minors to pornographic content, for example through age verification.

Xnxx now has until mid-November to fulfill its obligations under the DSA. This includes conducting its own risk assessments regarding the handling of illegal content or the negative effects on the well-being of users. The report will then be reviewed by the EU Commission.

The platforms Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos were already classified as "very large online platforms" last year. In mid-June, they were asked by the Brussels authority to provide more information on the protection of minors and the handling of illegal content.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) aims to ensure that platforms remove illegal content from their sites more quickly than before. Users will also find it easier to report such content. In general, large services must follow more rules than small ones.

  1. The EU Commission, located in Brussels, has imposed stricter regulations on the EU for the "very large online platform" Xnxx, such as the Protection of minors from accessing sex movies, due to the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
  2. Under the EU's Digital Services Act, Xnxx, along with other platforms like Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos, must adopt measures to secure the internet, including age verification to prevent minors from accessing explicit content.
  3. The EU Commission, as part of the DSA, has set a deadline for Xnxx to abide by its rules, including conducting risk assessments related to user well-being and the removal of illegal content.
  4. The European Union and its societies will benefit from the Digital Services Act (DSA), as it enforces stricter regulations for large platforms like Xnxx, ensuring the swift removal of illegal content and improved protection measures for minors on the internet.
