District Court Hagen - Brother murder at Hagen scrapyard: Defendant remains silent

A 77-year-old man from Hagen is supposed to have shot his brother in January. Since Friday, he has had to answer for murder at the Hagener District Court. The incident is said to have occurred on the family-run scrapyard. A relative and an employee of the business were also injured at the time through gunshots. The accused remains silent about the charges.

The accused is said to have handed over the management of the business to his 54-year-old half-brother in summer 2023. According to the current investigation, problems with the tax office were the main reason for this. In the weeks and days leading up to the incident, the relationship between the two brothers is said to have deteriorated further. The 77-year-old is said not to have coped with his subordinate role.

On the day of the incident, the accused is said to have first shot at an employee of the company and his nephew. When both men were injured and lying on the ground, he is said to have gone into his brother's office and shot him behind his desk. According to the indictment, four shots hit the victim's chest. The man bled to death at the scene.

The half-brother, now managing the scrapyard in Hagen, originates from North Rhine-Westphalia, like the accused and the victim. The 77-year-old's troubled adjustment to his subordinate role in the business may have contributed to the escalation of criminality within the family-run scrapyard. Despite the ongoing legal process at the District Court in Hagen, the accused has stepped away from providing any explanation for the charges against him.
