British police prepare for another riot on Wednesday
In the UK, a wave of nationwide anti-Muslim riots shows no signs of abating. Police braced for more unrest on Wednesday after far-right groups called on social media for attacks on asylum-seeker accommodations and law firms specializing in immigration. "Wednesday night, guys. They won't stop coming until you tell them to," read one post. Anti-fascist activists called for counter-protests. In recent days, police have tried to prevent street battles between the two groups.
The violence was sparked by misinformation spread online about a fatal stabbing of three young girls in northwest England. The suspected killer was wrongly identified as an Islamic migrant, leading a far-right mob to target mosques.
As a precaution, migrant support centers remained closed on Wednesday. Medical practices in areas where protests were expected also closed. Social media posts advised which areas to avoid.
Anti-fascist opponents also prepared for violent confrontations. One post read, "Racist scum is trying to attack an immigration lawyer's office in the coastal town of Brighton. We won't let that happen - cover your face and wear face masks."
The Police deployed additional forces to maintain law and order, anticipating potential clashes between far-right groups and counter-protesters. Despite the closure of migrant support centers and medical practices, tensions remained high, with Police urging vigilance and caution among residents.
