British Foreign Secretary David Cameron pledges further military support for Ukraine

On his first trip abroad since being appointed British foreign secretary, David Cameron has pledged further military support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj in Kiev. "I have wanted this to be my first visit," Cameron said Thursday, according to a video of the meeting released by the Ukrainian presidency.

In doing so, he wanted to show that London will "continue to give Ukraine the moral, diplomatic, economic, but above all the military support" it will need "not just this year and next year" but "for as long as necessary," Cameron said during the meeting with Selenskyj.

Selenskyj thanked Cameron for visiting Ukraine at a time when international attention is currently focused primarily on the war in the Middle East between Israel and the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas. The world is currently "not looking at the situation on our battlefield in Ukraine," Selenskyj said, according to the video. Divided attention "does not help," he added.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Cameron was in Kiev participating in talks on armaments, weapons production, and security in the Black Sea. Selenskyj said on the Telegram online service that the talks with the British delegation were about the supply of "weapons for the front, strengthening air defenses, protecting our population and our vital infrastructure."
