Brandenburg advertises with the slogan 'You can't complaining there'

When Brandenburgers praise something, it comes across as sincerely dry. The highest praise is: 'you can't fault that'. Now Brandenburg advertises itself - with a very specific goal.

Regional Marketing - Brandenburg advertises with the slogan 'You can't complaining there'

A woman stands in the middle of a grunting goat herd after falling from great height and says, apparently unharmed, to the animals: "Wow! Brandenburg - number one in population growth for the past ten years. Did you know that?" A man in a suit hangs from a tree with a suitcase and calls: "Hey! Last year we had more economic growth than Bavaria." The video ends with the phrase "You can't meckern that." With the new campaign and the slogan, Brandenburg aims to attract more new residents on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as on billboards.

The red-black-green state government refers to the fact that Brandenburg has had the highest net gain of inhabitants and residents among all the states since 2014. "We have had more influx than any other federal state for the tenth time in a row," said the State Secretary in the State Chancellery, Benjamin Grimm, in Potsdam. "Munich, Bayern has managed to be champions eleven times in a row. We're getting close."

People from Berlin are moving to Brandenburg the most

Since 2013, according to the Statistical Office, Brandenburg has seen a significant influx from Berlin, particularly from young families. From 2013 to 2023, approximately 145,000 more people came to Brandenburg than left - Brandenburg became the influx leader only in 2014. The greatest increase was in the districts of Barnim, Teltow-Fläming, and Dahme-Spreewald.

Brandenburg advertises itself on poster designs not only for population growth but also for the fact that Tesla and Rolls Royce have settled there, Europe's second-largest pumpkin came from the country last year, experimentation with the cultivation of eggplants and rice is taking place, and Bert, the supposedly only free-living elk, lives there.

Brandenburg's humble state promotion

The phrase "You can't meckern that" was borrowed practically from the vernacular. The former boxer Axel Schulz advertised for a Brandenburg campaign called "Brandenburg, you can't meckern!" as early as 2012.

Grimm said that Brandenburg wants to focus on jobs and economic growth with the campaign. "We're not so much about 'We are the best,' but rather with a certain Brandenburg humility," Grimm said, looking at the club motto of FC Bayern Munich.

The slogan is meant to speak for itself

Last year, it was still "Beautiful places don't need beautiful names" with the curious place names Kotzen, Motzen, and Protzen, the previous year "everyone wants to go there." In most cases, this is meant to be taken lightly: The new line from the annual communication offensive received a wink from the Mark Brandenburg authorities upon request.

The new slogan is intended to be read at many other places - for example, during the Day of German Unity in Schwerin, during the Brandenburg Industrial Culture Day at the Schiffshebewerke in Niederfinow, or during the annual camping site tour, which begins the coming Thursday.

The slogan "You can't meckern that" has also been used in a Brandenburg campaign led by former boxer Axel Schulz in 2012. Brandenburg isn't just promoting population growth, but also the presence of companies like Tesla and Rolls Royce, and unique achievements such as the second-largest pumpkin and the supposedly only free-living elk, Bert. Many people from Berlin, particularly young families, have moved to Brandenburg since 2013, contributing to its significant influx. Towns in Brandenburg like Kotzen, Motzen, and Protzen have been used in previous communication offensives with light-hearted slogans.
